Digital Printed Banners
Digital Printed Banners
We have become quite used to all the ads and billboards around us. There are displays about anything and everything. And they can be found at virtually any place – in schools, on the buildings, in ceremonies, for giving directions. They are so much essential in the advertising business, that there has been a separate trade to deal with them. And above all these modes of advertisement and displays, the one thing that stands above the rest are the digital printed banners.
As we know, the banners came into being as soon as cities began to thrive. Earliest of them were made of paper and any available material. With the extensive industrialization, they became an important tool of communication and giving out information. In the more recent times, they were taken to the next step by the use of a wonder material- vinyl. Vinyl is known for its durable, weatherproof and attractive looks. Yet, the digital printed banners still consume paper and similar materials for the simple reason of absolutely low cost.
The vinyl used in the digital printed banners is categorized on its weight. It can vary from 9 ounces a square yard to 22 ounces per square yard. The heavier the vinyl, more durable it is and more attractive it can be made. However, the vinyl banners are kept as light as possible if they are to be used for a short time. Thus, in that case, the quality of print determines the actual weight and thus, cost of the vinyl banner.
The major part of the digital banner printing today is done by inkjet printers for a simple reason that the print-heads of the inkjet printers can be easily controlled by the computer. Also, the relatively newer technologies of thermal and piezo electricity controlled print-heads provides a greater efficiency and faster prints. They have been instrumental in the development of ‘field printers’, which are capable of printing banners of each and every size.
The inks used in digital printed banners are mostly water based due to its low cost. However, solvent based inks are preferred at places where higher print quality is desired. Also, newer inks like UV-curable inks are used where excellent look and durable printing is required. The digital printed banners can then be heat treated, UV - treated or even laminated to provide a much finer look, based on the requirements.
The digital printed banners have provided an excellent method of communication and giving out information. The low cost and ease of display have made them a hot favorite amongst small industries. As the new advancements in computer and printing technology become popular, digital printed banners are set to have a brighter future.
