Retail Banners

The retail banners are normally found in the retail shops. All grocery shops will normally displaying the retail banner on the commodities sold by them. In some cases, the shop keeper will be writing the prices on the banner and in some cases, not.

The retail banner will be made in the form of a writing black board with names of commodities painted on it providing space against each item, to enable filling of rates. Some traders will be writing the rates by hand. In all cases, there is competition between traders and the aim of trader is to attract maximum customers to his shop.

The retail banner will also have provision for the stock position to be indicated against each commodity. But, since it is not compulsory for all the retail grocery shops, they are not much bothered to incorporate the stock position.

The retain banner in case of fair price shops coming under rationing articles, the government has made it compulsory to incorporate the stock position against each product with the intention that the trader should not refuse to give the commodity available as per the stock position. This is made compulsory because, the trader will show the nil stock of the available commodity in the board, but may sell it to others at a higher price, when the commodities are supplied by the government to him at subsidized rates.

There is no hard and fast rule for all the grocery shopkeepers to indicate the stock position in the retail banner, while indicating the prices of commodities is mandatory.

Of late, we are seeing that even the jewelry shops also displaying the retail banners giving the rates of gold and silver on the prevailing day. This is also to attract more customers to the shop. The retail banner is not normally seen in any other types of trade shops.
